Amy's late grandmother always used to say,
"When you do something nice for someone else, a penny goes up to heaven for you."
As a tribute to both Amy and grandma, we've introduced a special initiative for this year's event: The "Pennies for Heaven" campaign. Each AOMC participant who brings 15 rolls of pennies to the outing on July 17 will receive a special, commemorative "Pennies for Heaven" T-shirt. All of the pennies collected will go directly into Central Michigan Community Hospital's endowment for nurse education programs.
In addition, businesses and organizations around Mount Pleasant have been hosting their own "Pennies for Heaven" drives for months, collecting more than $3,500 in the process. Special thanks to LaBelle Management; Central Michigan Community Hospital; CMU Campus Dining; CMU recreation, parks and leisure services administration students; and CMU's fraternities and sororities for their collaborative (actually, competitive in most cases!) efforts to support the endowment. And thanks also go to the 40+ businesses/offices that currently are displaying the collection cans; look for a "giant penny roll" near the cash register next time you visit your favorite local business ... and be sure to drop in a few pennies!
